Bite-size facts
Epidemic to Pandemic
There are now well over 1,000,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases across the globe.
Symptoms are are slow to show
Symptoms may develop up to 14 days after exposure to the illness. During this time you can still contaminate others even if you don't present symptoms.
COVID19 and plasma
Plasma is the yellowish liquid part of the blood that contains precious antibodies that can be used to cure COVID19 patients.
Plasma Transfusion?
How does it work?
People who recovered from COVID19 have the antibodies to fight the virus in their plasma, the liquid part of the blood. Plasma transfusion therapy consists of transferring antibody rich plasma into the bloodstream of severe COVID19 patients to support their immune system in fighting the virus.
How promising is it?
Plasma transfusion isn't a new therapy: It has already proven effective for treating ebola and SARS among others, systematically reducing the mortality rate of the disease.
What are the risks?
It is safe for a healthy donor to give their plasma. A doctor will evaluate your health before taking plasma. Make sure you eat and drink well before and after donating!
Save lives
by donating your plasma
Mobilisation
on a national level will enable fast implementation of clinical trials
Clinical trials
are essential to ensure plasma transfusion is a safe therapy and can be deployed on the large scale.
Plasma transfusion
can save critical patients who's immune system is too weak to defend them
